Hey there friends!!  I hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend & Monday is treating you well so far.  Brian & I had a pretty great weekend, which consisted of going to see the new documentary Fed Up.  I was SO excited since the first time I’d heard about it & saw the trailer!  It’s totally my kind of film being the nutrition nerd that I am & a #realfood pusher.

Sadly, the film wasn’t showing anywhere near us the opening weekend.  This past Friday it did start playing in Milwaukee at the Downer Theater, so Brian & I decided to make a day of it on Saturday & drove the hour & a half to go check it out.  It was awesome!!

Holy cheezer!!! Haha! BUT, in all fairness I was being a total dork & being silly.

I wasn’t really surprised that I completely loved the film & basically everything that it stood for.  Basically, Fed Up wants to make everyone aware of exactly how much sugar is in our food – and how messed up our food supply is.  Our government is so backwards & corrupted.  I wholeheartedly agree that something needs to change, it’s sickening.  I don’t have children, but if I did, I wouldn’t be letting them eat the S.A.D. (standard American diet).

Seeing such overweight & unhappy kids in the film was really heartbreaking.  There’s no way that kids in their early teens should be going on diets – they’re still developing & growing.  When you see 200-300lb teenagers who are on diets & working to be active & lose weight, yet they aren’t losing – you know something is very wrong.  Not to mention, how did they get so big in the first place?  Companies are putting sugar in just about everything!  It’s sad when 80% of the items in grocery stores have added sugar.

The kids in the film were trying to lose weight… but, they just don’t really know how to go about it & how the correct way to eat is.  They’re constantly surrounded by convenience products & foods with so many added sugars… it’s only making them fatter & sicker.  The frustrating part is that our government ALLOWS this to happen.

I liked how in the movie they talked a bit about the politics behind why pizza is considered a vegetable in our schools, why we’re basically addicted to sugar, how much sugar a child eats on a daily basis, & what the sugary foods do & become in the body.  Fed Up was good at breaking things down & laying it all out there in an easy to follow manner so that basically anyone could get the message.

I found it interesting how they showed that so many of these households with overweight kids – the kids were eating a LOT of cereal!  It wasn’t just any sugary kids cereal either – it was things like Special K & ones that they thought were supposed to be healthier.  They were buying things that said “low-fat” and “fat-free” & totally ingesting all of these hidden sugars in all of the processed carbs (which only turn to even more sugar in the body anyway)… the movie didn’t come out & say that low-carb/high fat was the way to eat or even that certain carbs were bad or made you fat.  I feel like they allude to it a bit, but I didn’t really expect them to make that big of a jump yet anyway.  I am happy that they pretty much showed that all of those sugary, over-processed carbs were not the way to be healthy & usually led the way to obesity & just more hunger.

Sugar is our drug & America’s children are being targeted hardcore.  Sugar has been shown to be as addictive as cocaine, so why are we putting it into all of our food?  We need to get FED UP and demand a change!  REAL food & no more fake, sugar, & chemical laden food!!  Are YOU fed up yet?!  I am FED UP!!  Stop messing with our food supply!!  Pizza is NOT a vegetable & shouldn’t be labeled as such in schools.  Ridiculous.

In other words – everyone: please go see the film Fed Up & demand change!

Are you FED UP with our food supply?  Have you seen the film yet?  If so, thoughts?
